Just want to tell people first that I've pretty much moved most of my activity to Deviantart, mainly because the overall community feel is nicer here, and nobody hacks into my account (I still do have grudges about the lack of non-subscriber features and I'm waiting impatiently for Deviant Groups to arrive). Although I do wish there were more roleplaying accounts over here. On SA people have created accounts and spruced them up, pretending to be a character from a game or movie or cartoon. There doesn't seem to be much of that over here.
Well tonight my mum and I are going into the city to watch everybody's final animated short films at the Regent Theater. Great now everyone will see all the corners I cut in cleaning up animation on the big screen. I'm excited to see everyone else's films too (well that's pretty much the reason I'm going). Still, I've always wanted to see my name in the credits of a movie in the cinema and I guess in a way that dream has come true, except it'll only be seen by my classmates and their friends and family. Better than nothing.
Maybe I can also squeeze another movie review into this entry. Yesterday I went to see The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, which was the last movie Heath Ledger starred in before he died. Unfortunately Ledger died half way through production and Johnny Depp (and a couple of other actors I forgot) had to fill in for him. Really I thought a film with Heath Ledger and Johnny Depp in it would have gotten more promotion because before I looked this film up on Youtube I hadn't seen ANY trailers or posters or anything anywhere.
All that aside, this is probably one of the most unappreciated and best films out right now (keeping in mind that we haven't got Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs or Planet 51 over here yet). Dr Parnassus is a traveling entertainer who continually deals with the devil. Through winning wagers with the devil, he has been granted immortality and certain other powers (which aren't fully explained). He runs a sideshow called "The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus", which includes a magical mirror that shows people images from inside their imagination when they step through it. If people make the wrong choices in the land beyond the mirror, they die at the hands of the devil.
I don't want to give too much away. The characters are well developed (well I really identified with them) and the things you see in the mirror are strange, not random strange, more Tim Burton, bizarre, strange. In fact if you like the style of Tim Burton then you could find yourself enjoying this film. When the characters went through the mirror I just didn't want to leave that world.
Oh and also I should mention that the chicks I got last week are growing really quickly. Now they actually have pupils instead of "alien" eyes. They've got little stubby tail feathers too, and now they're in a phase of jumping around and perching on things. They really don't want to get picked up.
